Providence Canyon State Park
Hi guys!
I'm back after a month or so of no traveling or hiking activity, I know, it's way too much for me.
You guys know me well enough to know that I need to be out there at least once a month
visiting a new place or hiking any trails whether in my home state Florida or close to it.
This time around, me and Hector wanted to do something out of Florida or going up north,
also it would be a short trip that will require only a weekend escape.
Doing a little bit of research about State Parks around North of Florida and Georgia we
came across Providence Canyon State Park and we just connected with it right away.
Apparently we had no idea such canyon would exist on this side of the country,
we have hiked the Grand Canyon and the main trails back in 2017 when we visited
Havasupai Falls and we though this would be the only canyon in the states.
In case you guys didn't know Providence Canyon is known as "Little Grand Canyon"
and let me tell you is not as little you think it looks.
On a Friday afternoon we set our backpacks and set course to Lumpkin, Georgia.
As usual, we got there pretty early in the morning and the perfect time to book
for a camping spot and to get ready to explore the entire state park.
This state park has 6 backcountry campsite with several sites available, so prepare yourself to
pack your backpacks with all the essential camping stuff and hike your way out to the camping site.
We rented a campsite site for $25 flat rate and bought some wood to make fire at night,
mind you this we had to carry all the bags with the wood so it made the hike a little bit uncomfortable.
As soon as we set camp we headed back to the start of the trail to start hiking Providence Canyon.
There hikes all around the entire park, totaling of 10-miles roundtrip loop trail,
we were able to do the first 7-miles which covers the round-loop trail from the top,
and then you can hike the rest of miles on the below surface to other canyons.
The top trail offers the best view and highlights of the park, it catches outstanding views
of the canyon and entire horizon of the state park, I founded to be very relaxing and beautiful.
Heading down to the main loop trail you can find access to other canyons, and I believe this
is the best place to spend your time taking photos and exploring each rim of the canyons.
There are plenty of others things to do such as checking out the playgrounds, astrology and
geology programs that the park offers, and visiting the market place to buy souvenirs.
All around we had an incredible time at Providence Canyon, it always surprises me when
we get to explore a new place especially a canyon on this side of the country.
I'm glad we were able to experience this state park and all the activities that includes,
but I'm more excited for the fact that we finally have a Little Grand Canyon close to us.
If you guys are looking to visit any place in Georgia, Provide Canyon State Park
is the one of the best state parks to enjoy for a summer vacation.
As always catch you guys on the next blog!
