Exploring the Windy City (Chicago Trip)
Hello guys!
Excited to welcome you back to a new blog post for this new year.
I hope everyone had a great start of the new year 2021 and here I am hoping
this year everything clears up and we can get out of this horrific pandemic.
I spent the last day of the year with my closest friends having a small get-together as usual,
we lighted up the BBQ for some fresh ribs and pork to pair
it with a great bottle of whiskey for the night.
We ended up having such a good time and ready we were for the new year!
Since the 1st of January was on Friday I had a long weekend to rest and prepare for my next trip.
The following weekend it was time to flight up to the Windy City Chicago!
We had planned this trip to Chicago prior the new year and with Covid-19 and the whole
pandemic the flights were so cheap that it was the perfect opportunity for us to buy them.
Even our hotel accommodations were relatively inexpensive and since
some of the couples shared a room the cost was even cheaper.
We hopped on an early flight from Fort Lauderdale Airport to Chicago O'Hare Airport,
arriving to The Windy City it was 33 degrees Fahrenheit of pure cold and snow.
Checking in at the LondonHouse Chicago hotel was an absolute beauty,
a stunning room view looking at the Riverwalk and great location in downtown Chicago.
On day one we explored the entire city and visited from local restaurants to rooftop bars.
At night it was all about the rooftop bars and skyscrapers.
For our first night we had a table reserved at RAISED An Urban Rooftop Bar
a 4-story rooftop outdoor terrace with breathtaking views of Chicago.
Definitely a great rooftop bar to check out if you ever visiting Chicago.
For every other night we tried to plan at least one or two rooftop bars per night in case
we didn't like one of the places or if I didn't have enough time to enjoy ourselves.
Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 guidelines and protocols in Chicago every
customer and guest had about an 1-hour timeframe to consume drinks and food,
this was just only with a reservation at any restaurant or bar,
if you didn't have a reservation you'd be lucky if you even got a table
as they were not accepting walk-ins due to the Covid-19 guidelines,
trust me really annoying protocols!
Coming up next we had Upstairs At The Gwen as our next rooftop bar.
Here we didn't spend too much time as we were not very fond of this bar,
only asked for a couple of drinks and then decided to hit the streets to explore the nightlife.
The next morning I went and visited the Chicago Theater myself but
unfortunately it was close due to... yeah, you've guessed it Covid-19!
My god it was so sad and bitter seeing this amazing theater closed,
however, since I was here I took the chances to take a few pictures and I told myself
I would be back once everything was back to normal to visit the Chicago Theater.
Next we went straight to visit The Bean.
Of course due to Covid-19 it was barricaded with a lot of fences so the
public nobody would come close to the architecture as it usually happens.
From my point of view it was very impressive to see it live,
and I was not expecting to be this big but once you see upfront you adjust to it.
I was actually glad there was nobody around it kind of perfect for me to take pictures of it,
I have seen previous photos of people close to The Bean and it kind of loses the purpose,
it feels like crowded areas around such a beautiful structure loses the meaning of it.
For Saturday night we went to Roof On TheWit rooftop bar.
Located on the 27th floor of the Hilton Hotel TheWit Chicago,
a beautiful-fancy rooftop bar with a stylish terrace and great accommodations.
This was by far my favorite rooftop bar in the whole city of Chicago,
it had this amazing and great vibe that you couldn't get a hold of yourself,
so much fun with good music and great vibes all around.
This is definitely a rooftop bar you guys need to check out!
On Sunday we went directly to Goose Island Brewery!
In case you guys didn't know I am a beer lover and a big fan of IPAs,
so whenever I'm visiting a big city I have to visit a local brewery of a famous beer,
in this case, Goose Island is from Chicago and had a local brewery available to visit.
Located outside in the suburbs of Chicago there was the great brewery.
I can't really remember how many IPAs I tried during my time here
but I remember asking for different samples of IPAs and what a time I had!
Definitely my favorite brewery and favorite spot to visit in Chicago,
I bought some souvenirs from the local shop to take home,
but overall it was an amazing experience visiting Goose Island Brewery.
On our last night in Chicago we had reservation at our
own hotel's rooftop bar the London House Rooftop Bar.
Since it was our last night here we took it a little bit easier and just enjoyed a nice
dinner meal in the beautiful outdoor terrace looking at the panoramic views of the city.
If you are staying in LondonHouse Hotel this is by far the best rooftop bar
to get the best view and sight of the entire city especially at night.
The next morning we went for a quick run of coffee and breakfast
at our local coffee shop before we headed back to the airport.
I enjoyed my time here at Chicago and if I would have to complain about this trip
I think it would have been simply Covid-19 guidelines and protocols.
I really hated the fact that we couldn't visit local
museums, theaters, and other great locations in the city.
I would definitely would love to visit again when things open
up and everything goes back to a normal state.
Lesson learned: Do not travel to big cities in the middle of a pandemic!
Well guys this is for this long blog post.
I hope you get to enjoy some of the shots of this beautiful city,
surely I will be back in the future with more time to visit the rest of the locations,
for now I could say that I have loved every part of The Windy City, Chicago!
See you on the next blog.
