Exploring The Narrows (Utah Hiking Expedition 2021)

Exploring The Narrows
(Utah Hiking Expedition 2021)
Hello friends.
Welcome back to another blog post of my Utah hiking expedition series for this week.
I'm thrilled to come back and keep on telling our stories of our day 2 of this hiking expedition.
For the next day we went on to hike the famous and amazing The Narrows.
This was my first time hiking The Narrows and I didn't know what to expect from it,
I didn't get to do any research prior this hiking trip about any of the hikes as I usually do
because I like to keep myself informed of any dangerous encounters or trails.
However, I was glad I didn't see any pictures or content about The Narrows this time.
Here are just a few quick tips and stories to know about my hike on The Narrows.
In order to get to The Narrows you'll need to hop in on the shuttle bus
that goes from the Visitor Center until stop #9 this will be the last stop
of the entire park route and where you could start hiking to The Narrows.
The Riverside Walk is just a paved 1-mile hike each way before getting to the actual Narrows,
this is a pretty cool walk as you can encounter many hikers going in and out of the trail.
As always I would suggest to start hiking as early as possible as this hike could very crowded.
There are several ways you can hike The Narrows,
you either have the short way or the long way.
One of them is to start hiking from the top to the bottom starting at Chamberlain Ranch
down to The Temple Of Sinawawa which you'll need to take a shuttle as well to the trailhead.
This thru-hike can be done within a day,
however, most hikers tend to do a 2-day thru-hike because of the length of the river,
weather conditions, hours it requires and it's a more adventurous hike.
For this thru-hike a permit is required to do the entire 16-miles hike,
the overnight permits are usually difficult to obtain during the holidays and weekends,
so make sure to plan accordingly and on timely matter.
If you'd like to hike the short way as the same way our group and I did it,
you'll only need to hike about 4-miles each way along with the Riverside Walk trail
coming up to a total of 10-miles roundtrip or a little less than that.
Best way to gear up for The Narrows hike is to wear some shorts or leggins,
I noticed most people were wearing leggins (especially women) to keep themselves
warm from the water and to cover their bottom parts of their body.
Now, the water can be very cold depending of the time of the year,
around this time it is not that cold (wasn't for me) but if you
decide to completely put your body in you might get the chilly.
However, by the time you step into the water and start hiking your way into the river,
you can simply adjust to the temperature of the water.
If you ever come to the case of getting very wet I would suggest to bring an
extra set of clothes but if not it won't be necessary, trust me on this!
I would recommend the most to bring some good and hard boots,
at the visitor center you can rent some of the equipment
by getting some high-rock boots and hiking poles.
Nonetheless, if you can bring your own hiking waterproof boots and
poles like I did there won't be a point in renting any equipment.
Once you reached the main section of the known Wall Street
which it is usually the narrowest part of the canyons,
it divides into two passages where you can continue on the thru-hike to discover
other unknown sections of The Narrows or be able to come back on the same trail.
I'd personally wanted to discover a few territories on this section and I enjoyed it so much.
This is why I would recommended completing the thru-hike and staying
over night so you guys can get the full adventure and experience.
I know next time I'm in Zion I will be doing the overnight hike.
Honestly, After Angels Landing this is probably the 2nd most famous hike on Zion National Park.
I was actually happy I got to achieved both of these fascinating places on the same long weekend.
My best advice about hiking The Narrows is to not
be afraid of the cold water, steep rocks, or how long this hike is,
just make sure to enjoy the beauty and scenery of this incredible place.
I had an amazing and great experience hiking The Narrows
and I know for sure I will be back to hike overnight thru-hike
which will make my next experience more exceptional!
Well fellas here is where I leave you with another great blog,
I hope you guys find all the tips and suggestions very informative
and can't wait to hear everyone's stories of hiking The Narrows.
See you soon with another blog post.
Thank you all!
