Florida Trail - 62 Miles - OTL Day 2
(Ocean To Lake Okeechobee Hiking Trip)
Hi guys.
Welcome back to Day 2 of the Ocean to Lake Okeechobee Hike.
The next morning we woke up a little bit that the unusual time and we started hiking around 8AM,
definitely not the best time to hike 20+ Miles on Day 2 right?
Well, we definitely were tired and you could feel it between the group.
The goal for Day 2 was to try to make it to Lucky Hammock campsite,
which it was an expand of 22-Miles in order to make it.
Little did we know it not only we were not going to make but since we started so late
the night would get the best of us and we did not performed they way we wanted to.
Day 2 was just as beautiful as Day 1 except for a little storm and rain we got ourselves in the way.
Around noon time it started pouring on us while we were passing
the J.W. Corbett Wildlife Management Area which was completely flooded.
This is probably the best area to enjoy and explore the vast wetlands of J.W. Corbett.
Also, if you have a chance to pass by the Everglades Youth Conversation Camp
there are some really nice and great group of people working there.
After a couple of breaks here and there we passed by the Big Marsh Campsite,
even though it looked like a great place to camp we just simply couldn't stop
here as we were not even halfway there in miles or route for the day.
The night got the best of us and dawn came in super early.
From this point on we started making early decisions whether to keep hiking more miles
or to find a nice private space to set camp for the night as we couldn't see much out there.
After much thought we hike for a few more miles in the dark until reaching the trail
loop exit which led to Bee Highway and there we stopped to camp for the night.
Overall, I think we ended up hiking just another 15-17 Miles in total for Day 2,
like I said above not our best performance and we definitely felt it.
Our feet were completely stomped and destroyed and
we could barely move to even set our tents.
We set up camp next to the railroad and a bit close to the highway
so you guys could imagine the noise at night.
Cool thing is we saw two trains passed by and got to see them up close
which doesn't happen every day, so we definitely enjoyed that.
After dinner, we sat around for a couple of minutes for some commentary of Day 2
and how we were going to prepare mentally for Day 3 which would
eventually have been our most difficult task of this entire trip.
Well guys I'll leave you with some of my favorites photos of Day 2
and hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy taking them.
Catch up soon on the final blog of this series.
Thanks for being there!
