Florida Trail - 62 Miles - OTL Day 3 (Ocean To Lake Okeechobee Hiking Trip)

Florida Trail - 62 Miles - OTL Day 3
(Ocean To Lake Okeechobee Hiking Trip)
 Hey!
You guys made it to Day 3 in the OTL hike.
Welcome back once again!
After camping the night next to the Bee Highway & railroad we found ourselves
with what appeared to be a stormy day ahead of us on Day 3.
After we packed everything and started hiking that morning we got a bit of rain,
while we thought we were having a rough morning the weather didn't help throughout the day.
We found ourselves thinking we still were a long way to go and more than 25+ miles to hike.
The pressure and doubt of thinking we couldn't make it was definitely in our heads.
Even though we knew it was our last day our supplies were reaching a limit,
our water packs were getting empty, food and snacks were our of the equation.
Good thing of having the water filter is that we could get water anywhere
from the many creeks we were about to explore along the way.
There's always a point in time during your hiking trip that your mind drifts away
and starts challenging you whether your going to make it or not,
but we had no other options we needed to complete it!
We encountered what seemed to be one of my favorite spots the Loxahatchee Slough Tower.
From watching far away it almost feels like you are discovering sort of a castle or
just an actual tower that looks incredibly tall and mysterious from afar.
We parked our backpacks here for a few minutes to reach the top,
get a good view at the Loxahatchee Slough area and to of course takes lots of photos.
This part of the trail is also from the Loxahatchee Loop trail which provides
other alternatives routes in case you are not following up the OTL hike.
The next couple of miles we were heading in and out of the woods,
I was quite enjoying this section because we got to see other sides of the trail,
streets, back roads, and access to other local parks that were not accessible at the beginning,
you could tell these sections were getting closer to the city of Jupiter.
If you didn't think we got swamped away you are dead wrong!
This part of the trail was flooded with water as well.
We arrived to Jonathan Dickinson State Park around 6PM pretty much at night.
Here we took a little break, made some coffee, prep ourselves to hike non-stop for then next 8-9miles.
We found ourselves hiking at night once again,
but this time it was super breezy and that helped a lot to cool off on the way.
We were about to hit the hardest part of the trail which I called the "sandy section".
I remember seeing how cool it was to spot the sand way before arriving to Hobe Sound beach.
Around this time my legs started to fail me pretty bad and I couldn't cope with the pain,
my two great friends were motivating and pushing me to keep going
at it even if it meant walking as slowly as I could,
the point was not to stop and rest until we reached the end.
I tell you this is where you have got to be strong minded and pull yourself together,
and only you can do that by talking to yourself and making sure you can't hold the pain,
it is all about the endurance in the end!
Honestly, I don't think I would have been able to do it all by myself,
I needed this motivation and shouting to keep going at it until the end.
We made it to Hobe Sound beach parking lot around 10:40PM on Sunday night,
our body and legs were completely destroyed,
but it was an electrifying and exciting moment to se the Hobe Sound sign.
While we were not done we needed to made it a ritual to reach the actual beach,
here we snapped some photos, took a bath at the beach and put our feet in the sand,
the most relaxing and amazing feeling ever!
What a relief! We have done it!
Well guys this is end of Day 3 and this series of blog too.
What an incredible journey it has been hiking the OTL hike.
This is one of those hikes I would strongly recommend if you ever feel
like putting yourself under some challenge and immense pressure.
I hope you guys enjoy a good read and like all my photos on this series.
Will be taking a break from hiking in the coming weeks
but planning on getting back to the trail soon enough,
already miss it a lot!
As always, stay adventurous and wild my friends!
