Johnston Canyon & Ink Pots
(Banff National Park Hiking Expedition)
Hey there!
Hope everyone is doing well.
This is another short blog post of one of the waterfalls parks I visited in Banff National park.
Today I will be talking about Johnston Canyon & Ink Pots and what to expect of it.
Before making this trip I had heard of several waterfalls around Banff,
and to my surprise Banff is full of waterfalls which Johnston Canyon was one of them.
Since I had made plans to wander around Moraine Lake and Lake Louise on my first day
Johnston Canyon seemed like a pretty cool waterfall park
to visit as it is relatively close to these lakes.
Once you arrive Johnston Canyon parking lot, you can find a lodge,
local cafeteria, and the main trail to the falls.
They also have campgrounds but for some reason
they were close due to construction and for the fall season.
A little further the entrance you can start seeing the beginning of the trail
which takes you to the Lower Falls and Upper Falls, continuing to the top of the Ink Pots.
The hike to the Lower Falls is just about 1.7-miles, it is a beautiful and hidden waterfall
that it will strike as soon as you see it, but I suggest to get a closer look of this gem.
The Upper Falls is another extra 1-mile (2.7 total) from the Lower Falls,
at this point it gets a bit exhausting since you're gaining elevation on the trail
but if you take your time you will make it to the Upper Falls with no issues.
As much as the Lower Falls, this Upper Falls it's pretty hidden, at first,
you won't be able to see it, but walking down to the end of the cliff-mounting
staircases between two main rocks you will spot the Upper Falls.
I was actually able to shoot more of this waterfall since there was no one here,
so I did spent a lot of time shooting and enjoying this waterfall.
Unfortunately, I was not able to make it to the top of the Ink Pots because it
would take me another extra 40-mins to go up and then another hour to head down.
I was under a limited time and needed to get back to the campground as early as possible.
Honestly, the best thing about Johnston Canyon are the Lower and Upper Falls,
if you really want the best view and experience I suggest you visit these two waterfalls.
if you are up for some accommodation the Johnston Lodge is the perfect place to stay.
Well I really hope you guys enjoy my photography and content on this blog post,
I shot so many great pictures and from different angles as well.
As always stay tuned for the next coming blog posts.
See you soon!
Hope everyone is doing well.
