Chasing Waterfalls - Day 4: Catarata La Fortuna / Arenal Volcano (Costa Rica Hiking Expedition)

Chasing Waterfalls - Day 4: Catarata La Fortuna / Arenal Volcano (Costa Rica Hiking Expedition)
Hello fellow travelers.
Once again with another blog post.
This time I will be recapping a little bit of Day 4 of our Costa Rica expedition.
So where should I start? It was Day 4 and we just couldn't believe.
After spending almost a week in this country and getting to know each place,
I kind of new Costa Rica was something special and unique.
On this day we visited two places: Arenal Volcano and Catarata La Fortuna.
After leaving Catarata Del Toro the day before we drove all night to camp
out closer to Arenal Volcano, this side of town is filled with countless tours,
restaurants, and a diverse section of hotels.
We decided to camp at a local farm where we met some Ticos
that were the most humble and nice people in the world,
they let us park our van and stay here for the night.
Early morning we hiked the Arenal Volcano park and all the trails,
it is pretty easy, short and comfortable to hike this section of the park.
Unfortunately, we were not able to hike to the summit of the volcano as
this is illegal and there's actually no other trail available to get there.
Even though I found Arenal Volcano pretty cool I was expecting a lot more,
maybe something more extreme and intense of this park.
For our next next place we decided to head to Catarata La Fortuna.
This waterfall is probably the most talked place in Costa Rica,
and we even knew this before heading to Costa Rica,
this why we planned on visiting it by the end of the week.
La Fortuna is located in the Arenal region of Arenal Volcano,
it took us 30 minutes to 1 hour to get to La Fortuna
and we even spotted some many other places along the way.
As soon as we arrived to La Fortuna we payed our entrance fee,
and headed down the steps to the waterfall,
as soon as you walk the last set of stairs you can noticed how crowded this place is,
they have a gift shop, several cafeterias, and bathrooms for all tourists.
Also, you will find a observation platform where you could snap
many pictures and has a great view of the waterfall.
Since we had a lot of time to kill, we spent many hours swimming
through the hot springs and the rivers around La Fortuna.
Funny enough, while swimming and walking around the waterfall
we found a hidden path that would lead us to the zip lining section,
but unfortunately it was closed, meaning, this stairwell was never meant to be trespassed,
after heading back we encountered other trails with
some great view from the top of La Fortuna.
At the end of the day I would say La Fortuna was the place where
we have spent the most our time,
too sad we had to go that day because we needed to drive
down 4-5 hours to the other side of the country for our next camping spot.
As previously mentioned, La Fortuna is definitely the most popular place here in Costa Rica
so there's no way you can't miss it and not visit this place.
Take a look at some of these photos and content of La Fortuna
and I'll see you guys on the next post!
