Three States Hiking - Day 1: DeSoto Falls (Alabama / Georgia / South Carolina)

Three States Hiking - Day 1: DeSoto Falls
(Alabama / Georgia / South Carolina)

 Hello my fellow travelers.
We are back with a new blog series of my latest hiking expedition: Three States Hiking.
After spending the past month of October at home I was already looking forward to my next trip.
Apparently from previous time I had requested a few days of vacations for the second
week of November and the funny thing is I had forgotten about it,
so I needed to use them before losing these vacation days.
Why did pick out the Three States Hiking name?
Well, simply for the fact that these were the states and hiking destinations I was going to visit,
I have decided to do all round roadtrip between Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina.
On November 10th I embarked on this long roadtrip to Alabama,
a good 11-hour of driving and nothing more that the long road of Florida and Georgia.
For the night I stopped at Rest Area #5 just a bit north of Valdosta,
I usually tend to stop somewhere between these rest areas in Georgia
they are pretty safe and secured at night so it was no problem for me.
Just got about 3-4 hours of sleep which it is usually how much I sleep when I'm on
the road to not lose any time and prioritize getting early to the first hike.
I arrived to our first hiking destination of this trip DeSoto Falls!
The hike for this waterfall is pretty easy to do at only 0.7 miles in total,
you only get a quick sight of the waterfall from up close the lookout area.
The dam from the beginning of the trail is beautiful and mesmerizing,
you can even pass some of the rocks and get into the water but it's not recommend
it to do so as the park doesn't allow it just make sure no one sees you.
DeSoto Falls has another hidden trail that is not assigned to the park itself,
however, many hikers have been able to spot it and have hiked the trail,
in my case, I was not able to see it therefore I didn't continue pursuing the trail.
The waterfall itself is fantastic and amazing to see from up top,
the structure of the dam how it brings out the water through the formation of the
rocks sections converting into this large waterfall it just incredible to witness.
Cool little fact that I noticed later on this waterfall is named after
Spanish explorer and conquistador Hernando De Soto,
I just love how these remarkable falls or places lead back to a piece
of history or figures that were important on these times,
as a history lover myself this is pretty amazing stuff to me!
The DeSoto State Park itself offers many others amenities from campgrounds,
picnic areas, nature center, playgrounds and boardwalk trail, among other things.
It is a pretty cool park although I didn't visit the rest of these things as
I had to move on quickly to my next destination on my itinerary.
One thing I would say this is the perfect time of the year
to visit these state parks and waterfalls,
the main reason behind it is because the fall colors
are very noticeable and rich on this South side of the country.
Fall season it just as beautiful and lovely as you see it on these photos.
This is another great hiking destination and waterfall that you guys can visit
I wouldn't recommend it enough and even though is located up north of Alabama,
it'll be worth the long drive to discover and appreciate DeSoto Falls.
Well friends this is end of this first blog post of the Three States Hiking Expedition,
stay tuned for more waterfalls and great hiking places that
I will be posting in the next couple of blog posts.
See you soon!
