Three States Hiking - Day 2: Noccalula Falls
(Alabama / Georgia / South Carolina)
Hello everyone!
We are back again on Day 2 of the Three States Hiking trip.
Picking up where we left up.
That same afternoon of visiting DeSoto Falls I headed to my next place Noccalula Falls.
I was really looking forward to visiting this one since I have heard great things about it.
Once I arrived to the state park I noticed it wasn't really a "state park" more or less
it was a RV Trailer Park/campground as they had many parked there.
The park itself looked a regular park/playground which was really surprising,
however, they do offer several trails and amenities around the park.
The very first thing you notice upon your arrival is the sound of water,
this is because Noccalula Falls is 90-feet tall and immense waterfall that you cannot miss.
The waterfall is located right in the middle of the park,
so you'll be able to spot it from the top of the gorge and as well from other
lookouts to get different sights and viewpoints of this amazing waterfall.
Cool fact about this fall is that is named after a young Native American princess named Noccalula,
the legendary story says she chose to jump to her death rather than marry the person she didn't not love,
pretty dark story if you ask me but also a good one if you are into these type of tales.
You'll noticed a statue and story of Noccalula implanted at one of the main sights of the fall,
and this is a pretty cool historical thing to do to memorize her death and story.
Next I decided to hike the Gorge trail to get to the bottom of the waterfall,
this is where the fun begins and you'll get to hike down the main trail.
As I'm always mentioning it is pure and beautiful how fall season looks up here,
the rocks and leaves are amazing around this time of the year.
Continuing down the trail you'll start getting some glimpses of the waterfall,
this is where it took me by surprise how huge and humongous this fall is.
Even though it is only 90-feet tall I couldn't relate to think it was this giant!
A couple of minutes later I stood in front of the fall just snapping pictures
and enjoying this great moment between myself and this amazing waterfall.
To this day I have to say that it still surprises me to see a waterfall up this close,
for some reason it'll never seize to amaze how beautiful nature can be.
I went ahead and did the quick hike around the waterfall
to some breathtaking views and even got wet haha!
Here I took more pictures that the usual and appreciate
every moment on this Gorge Trail and back to the waterfall.
Aparte from hiking the Gorge Trail and spotting the fall,
the state park offers has a wedding chapel, train rides around the park, petting zoo,
playground for kids, blacksmith souvenir shop and campgrounds available.
As always I didn't have a chance to encounter of all these amenities,
I'm always here for the important stuff which are the waterfalls and trails,
however, if you do have the time to visit do it I'm sure it'll be worth your time.
What ended up being just your typical playground park,
it became my favorite state park and waterfall from this trip,
I really loved every moment of this trail and hiking destination
and I would definitely come back to visit one more time!
Alright guys this is where I leave you,
hope you guys enjoy these photos and content of this blog post,
I'll continue with this hiking trip on the next post.
